Calgary Expo Day 2

A little heat stroke from patio beers yesterday wasn’t enough us from taking in the first FULL day of the Calgary Entertainment Expo and things kicked off with the POW (Parade of Wonder) this morning at 10:30. From there they made their way to the BMO Center and the event was, officially, underway!
I was pretty excited to get into the panels and even though the event is off to it’s official beginning, let’s be honest… the main panels that excite me the most are Goldblum & Chevaughn on Saturday. There was one panel that had a great turn out that was none other than Chris Sarandon. I’d be lying if I said that we didn’t go there thinking it was going to be Cary Elwes. Turns out, he’s tomorrow. The panels are the best part about any Convention! For anyone who’s never been to a “con” before, you know that they set up two mics for you to approach and ask any question you want. They’re usually about a character’s motives.. or just something stupid. This panel had both.
Move video & photos of panels will be on their way next week when I’m back in town…and energetic enough to make one.
Then we made our way onto the floor! Here’s a fun fact.. it wasn’t until we were almost done for the day that we realized there was and ENTIRELY second part to the exhibitors. We were down in the main area, seeing all the shirts, comics, prints & endless amounts of other merch and cool things to purchase. I don’t think I brought enough money.
I expect to take more photos tomorrow, but THERE WAS JUST SO MUCH TO DO AND SEE! Now.. let’s talk about the MAIN thing that everyone goes to conventions for. The Cosplay. If I had a nickle for every barely covered body, Harley Quinn or anime character that I didn’t recognize… I’d have enough to buy my own Delorean. Weather it was professional cosplay, like Jessica Nigri, or just a couple or group of friends that wanted to dress up for a day, the costumes were on point! I managed to snap a few of my favorites, but if I would have taken a photo of all my favorites I would have run out of memory!
HERE’S A FEW OF MY FAVORITES!
Halo Spartans, Master Chief & Cortana
A creepy photo from 20′ away from Jessica Nigri
.. and of course, R2D2!
THIS THING WAS SO COOL! The guy who made it actually had a sensor in his pocket so that R2 would follow him around and not get lost! It made all the sound effects, interacted with people. It’s crazy impressive how much time and money people put into these things!
Honestly, I can’t wait to go back tomorrow! I’m shocked that I still haven’t bought anything or spent any money on something that wasn’t a hot-dog. That will be saved for tomorrow though! Stay tuned for my Day 3 (final day because I”m going to get drunk in my hometown), luckily there’s not too many crazy things happening on Sunday. Stay tuned for a my full video recap coming next week too!
Until tomorrow.. stay geeky! I’m gonna have a drink!
