Prevention of Violence Against Women Week 2018
Kelowna Women’s Shelter is marking Prevention of Violence Against Women Week 2018 by challenging men to take a greater leadership role in ending intimate partner violence and abuse.
“Every six days in Canada a woman is killed by her intimate partner, and every night, more than 6,200 women and their children seek refuge from abuse in shelters like ours,” says Kelowna Women’s Shelter executive director Karen Mason. “These statistics are absolutely unacceptable, and they represent real women and children who deserve to live free of violence and abuse.”
Kelowna Women’s Shelter, which provides emergency and transitional housing, counseling and other support and education programs for women and their children who have experienced intimate partner violence and abuse, is in its 38th year of serving the community.
