Sure could use a little good news…
Every morning we’re served up positive news stories that don’t always get the light or the love that they deserve. If you (like me) are in the need of something positive amid the craziness, give these a read. 🙂
POLICE OFFICER SURPRISES MAN WITH NEW BIKE
Back in March, Troy Roberts of West Jordan, Utah, was having a rough few weeks after his bicycle was stolen. More than anything, he was having trouble getting to work at Burger King on time without the bike.
Last week, Troy was at work when Steve Olson — who happens to be a police officer — came in for food. Troy told Steve about the stolen bike and Steve asked a number of questions, as if he was filing a report. He got a great description of the bike, including the color and brand, and then left the restaurant.
Surprising Troy — and all of Troy’s co-workers — Steven returned just an hour later with two other officers … and a brand-new bike.
Troy was stunned and thrilled about the surprise, even breaking down in tears of joy.
And, of course, Troy was able to ride his new bike to his apartment complex that afternoon. (KUTV-TV)
PARALYZED DOG HAS MIRACLE RECOVERY FROM WATER THERAPY
A paralyzed Pomeranian has enjoyed a miracle recovery — thanks to special water therapy.
The dog — named Penny — has been through a lot in her one year of life. She was abandoned on a street in New York City, and was unable to use her hind legs when she was brought to the Animal Haven shelter earlier this year.
She was then adopted in February by a couple who made it their mission to help Penny recover.
They enrolled Penny in a rehabilitation program, called Water For Dogs, where she walked on an underwater treadmill and patiently dealt with laser spine treatments.
Amazingly, it didn’t take long for Penny to regain the strength in her hind legs. She’s so strong, in fact, that she can now run up and down the stairs and jump on furniture.
For now, the hydrotherapy sessions will continue, which means Penny will not only improve in her ability to run and jump on land, but also will continue to become an expert swimmer.
** This last one is bittersweet, but I think still deserves to be included…
LITTLE GIRL CLIMBS KILIMANJARO TO BE CLOSER TO LATE DAD
A seven-year-old from Texas recently became the youngest girl to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, but more importantly, she achieved the goal that she actually set out to accomplish.
Montannah Kenney asked her mother to make the grueling climb — and it wasn’t because she wanted to break the record. She had a much sweeter reason. Montannah thought that climbing it would put her that much closer to her late father, who passed away when she was three years old.
Her mother, Hollie Kenney, said, “She knows she has an angel looking after her and he lives in heaven. She knew that this mountain is above the clouds so she associated that she was going to be closer to her dad in heaven.”
Hollie says they originally planned the climb for later this year in October, but after they learned that an eight-year-old held the record, they decided to do it before Montannah’s eighth birthday in May.
It took them six days of sleeping in tents and battling freezing temperatures before they finally reached the peak. Once they made it, Montannah had a special moment with her dad. Hollie says, “It was beautiful. She knew she wanted to blow kisses to him and wave and hopefully he would see her.” (Inside Edition)
