WACH: The Lonely Island’s Rejected Oscar Song
THIS is the reason that The Lonely Island is the greatest musical/comedy group of all time!
Honestly, since the days of Andy, Akiva & Jorma making SNL Digital Shorts I have been a MASSIVE Fan of these guys. Of course, I’ve always been a huge fan of comedy music and comedy rap in general, but TLI brought it into popularity! So much so, that they have made movies like Hot Rod or more “Lonely Island” type movies like Popsatar: Never Stop Neverstopping — My favorite comedy movie of 2015.
It looks like they got some notoriety from the Oscar people as well because they wre approached to make a special song for the show. The Oscars usually have some type of comedy trope that gives loves to the movies that didn’t and never make the cut, like Superhero films and Comedies. The first one I remember was “A Comedian At The Oscars is the Saddest Man in Town”.
Unfortunately the song that The Lonely Island created for the Oscars never got to see the light of day because it was too expensive and star studded, as the group points out at the beginning of the sizzle-reel video that they released yesterday.
After watching the video you can see why the Oscar suits figured it might be a little to expensive to put together this video, even though it would have been incredible, but the Sizzle-Reel really gets across what we could have expected! Taking jabs at comic book movies and even tossing Michael Fassbenders box office failure, “Snowman” and tossing in Vin Diesel who we all know will never win an Oscar because he’s just the worst at acting. This video is sweet-sorrow though because now I’m left craving a new album from TLI! It’s been 3 years!!
