TOOL’s New Music ‘Too Long’ For Radio!
If anyone was hoping to hear some new TOOL on Power 104, when the new album drops, you might have to wait a little longer… or hope for a radio edit… or just buy the album. In an interview with KERRANG Danny Carey said,
“Well, whatever those guys play is how they express themselves. Adam [Jones] and Justin [Chancellor] aren’t musically educated, so they just come up with the weirdest shit. I just try to anchor it down and make it simple. The cool thing is every time I think I’ve simplified it as much as I can, we’ll give it to Maynard [James Keenan] and he’ll do something even more simplified – to the point where practically anyone can sing it! It’s simple shit and it’s coming out, man. The tracks are long…too long! Definitely too long for the radio (laughs)!”
That’s the rough part about Tool. Their songs average around 6 minutes! “Schism” and “The Pot” are a few TOOL songs that we play and they average around 6:22! Now, if that’s the case for the new music, I can see us scheduling some new TOOL (whenever it releases) on Power 104. But if they pull a “Machine Head” and drop an album of 9+ minute songs… then (Huston) we may have a problem.
Only time will tell! So far we have confirmation that the new TOOL album should drop sometime this year! Until then… I’ll just be patiently waiting.
