Author Alison Yesilcimen has added a modern twist to the early reader storybook – technology. Yesilcimen, well known in the Okanagan as the former Publisher & CEO of The Okanagan Valley Newspaper Group is launching Pretty Kitty in the City at Mosaic Books on Saturday, March 25 at 11 a.m. and Chapters (Orchard Park) at 2 p.m.
Pretty Kitty In The City is a fun, full-colour, rhyming book for children ages 2-6. A Dr. Seuss fan from her earliest reading days, Yesilcimen uses a familiar rhyming style to connect with today’s youngest readers. “Technology is a natural part of our kids’ lives,” she says. “I thought it was important to publish a book that uses technology in a fun and entertaining way.”
The book is beautifully illustrated in a nostalgic style parents will love. It is a story about Pretty Kitty, a kitten who loves to take selfies with her new phone. When she tries to take a photo with her pet hamster, Teddy, he escapes and hides under the piano! The story is loosely based on a real incident Alison experienced as a child in losing her pet hamster for a day.
“Most of my contacts are very surprised to hear that I’ve written a book for very young children,” Yesilcimen laughs, adding that “reading is a great way to spend time with your family and build precious memories. Being present with your kids is important and putting down the electronic devices and picking up a book teaches them how to limit their own use of electronic devices.”
“Giving families giggles is my goal!”
Yesilcimen will be conducting kids book readings at the following locations:
Mosaic Books, Saturday, March 25 at 11am, 12:30pm, and 1pm
Chapters in Orchard Park Mall, Saturday, March 25 at 2:00pm
