We’ve all been in this position before: Someone apologizes to you for something, and you’re just not sure they mean it. Know the feeling?

Well, Redbook wants to keep you from making the same mistake when it’s your turn to apologize for something. So, here are 3 examples of how NOT to say you’re sorry:

1. “I’m sorry if I upset you.”
Translation: I’m not really sorry for what I did. I’m just apologizing because you seem to have gotten yourself all upset about it.

2. “I’m sorry for what I did, BUT …”
Translation: I’m full of excuses, all of which clear me of any blame in the matter. The mistake was beyond my control.

3. “I know you’ll forgive me because you’re a reasonable person and we all make mistakes.”
Translation: I’m not really guilty of anything except being human, so stop being so mad or else you’re totally unreasonable.

Man-gagement rings — engagement rings worn by men — are getting more and more popular. Seems engaged ladies are putting a ring on it, too — and don’t want anyone to think their guy’s single.

According to a new British survey, men only buy underwear when they are hoping to woo a woman into a relationship.

Before they’re on the prowl for women, guys leave the job of purchasing their underwear to their moms.

From the age of 19 to the age of 23, guys take care of business themselves, buying up to 31 pairs a year in the belief that wearing new underwear is important to a relationship.

After that, it’s all downhill. By the time guys turn 33, they generally are in stable relationships and stop buying underwear altogether — leaving their girlfriend or their wife to pick up the slack.

A new dating simulation game for the Nintendo DS is taking the idea of a virtual girlfriend to the next level.

The game, called Love Plus, requires users to interact with your simulated date — and even kiss.

You select a virtual girlfriend, then keep her interested, in real time, by taking her on dates and planning activities together. She’s shy at first, sending you mixed signals about your relationship with her. But, if you play the game right, the two of you become more intimate.

For example, your date may ask you to say “I love you” a hundred times into the game system’s microphone, hold her hand on the touchscreen or touch her lips to give her a kiss.
