The mother of all endurance races just finished up in England. Give it up for all of the nearly 3,000 competitors who stepped foot on the Tough Guy Race course.
The race is only six miles, but features 21 different obstacles, including:
- fire walking
- ponds filled with leeches
- tiny, narrow tunnels
- crawling through shoulder high mud
- scaling a 40-foot high wall
- six-foot high stinging nettles
- mud-filled barbed wire trenches
The winner was James Appleton from Cambridge, who crossed the finish line in 1 hour and 39 minutes.
Some of the other contestants ended up with sprains, burns, cuts, scrapes, dehydration, hypothermia, twists and broken bones.
Organizer Mouser Wilson said, “There is nothing like this in the world and that is why people from all over the globe want to come here. I had a captain in Afghanistan write to me saying the British Army recognizes Tough Guy as the most arduous test of physical and mental endurance.”
