2009-July-26- Update from the Vernon ESS
The volunteer staff at the Vernon ESS Centre is working hard to assist the evacuees that have been asked to leave their homes as a result of the Terrace Mountain fire.
The Vernon ESS Centre will continue to remain open from 8:00AM until 8:00PM daily until the evacuees are allowed to return to their homes. This is to accommodate work schedules of those people who have been evacuated and might require extensions on their ESS referral forms. There is no longer any phone registration, you must appear in person for an extension on your vouchers.
The ESS Centre and officials on the road blocks are asking all people from the evacuation area to please continue to monitor the CORD website as well as all the media outlets for accurate timely updates about the evacuation orders.
Approximately 1,018 people continue on Evacuation Order in the following areas:
· Valley of the Sun
· Fintry High Farm
· Fintry Delta
· Upper Fintry
· Fintry Provincial Park
· Muirallen Estates
· La Casa
· District lots off South Terrace Mountain.
The police and emergency officials on the road blocks in the evacuation area are asking that you do not drive up to them asking if you can go back home yet. Everyone will be advised by public broadcast when the evacuation orders have been lifted.
The Vernon ESS Center is aware of the frustrations and concerns of the people affected by this fire, we ask for your continued patience during this difficult time.
