« Older EntriesOver the next few days I’ll process, edit and upload the more than 3 hours of audio I have from the weekend.
You’ve already heard from Trevor Hurst from Econoline Crush…with some breaking news on what’s up with the band right now. Just look back a few entries in Jazz’s Junk and you’ll find his interview.
I also spoke with Billy and Ben from Cold Driven on the Friday night opening reception…
billy-and-ben-cold-driven-friday
And Joey the coat check gal at the Commodore…who has an interesting desire when it comes to getting autographs…
So tomorrow I’ll add some more audio from Chris, The Knots, The Midway State and The Trews…
Have a great day and I’m going for a nap now!!!
Jazz
Juno Fan Choice Award…Nickelback
Album of the Year…Nickelback - Dark Horse
Artist of the Year…Sam Roberts
Group of the Year…Nickelback
New Artist of the Year…Lights
Songwriter of the Year…Dallas Green - Waiting/Sleeping Sickness/The Girl
We’re done with the official business…now we put on some sleek clothes and hit the Warner party for the evening…but that doesn’t start unti 9…and I’d better not stop…cause I think I’d drop.
It’s been a busy weekend…I have a tonne of interviews to process from the last few days…but it’s takes a while…so I’ll get those into Jazz’s Junk over the next week.
There’s a rumour Sam Roberts will be coming upstairs to do a little media with us in a bit…fingers crossed.
I got a great shot of him this afternoon on the red carpet…man he’s short.
Oh…and looky who just showed up…
Actually most musicians are. I think the only guy I’ve met this weekend that is taller than me is Kodooh from State of Shock.
Now I’m just waiting to see if Nickelback comes up to the media room. Having won 3 awards tonight…I’m hoping they do…but even Chad made a comment during tonight’s show…about how the media was going to love this. They’ve had so much bad press…I know he’s not a big fan of the media…but really…who could be happy about being beaten up all the time.
Oh look…here they are…
Chad says they’re a mainstream band and that’s okay because the fans like it.
He also says he’s terrified that the media is actually easing up on them now.
Okay…off to the party now.
I’ll be on the air with Bob tomorrow morning to tell some stories and back on the air in Kelowna Tuesday.
We saw her on the red carpet and she’s in the room with me right now!!!!!
So this is it…I’m in the bowels of GM Place…actually…we’re on the 2nd floor in the media room.
At the back of the room are these little booths set up for TV interviews.
There are tables just in front of those booths…which is where I’m sitting…about half way back in the room.
Over to the left of us radio folks are the photographers…partitioned off and ready to snap photos of the winners that come thru the room.
So presenters at the show, which doesn’t start until 5, are Buffay Sainte-Marie & k.d. lang, Hedley, Deborah Cox, Sarah Slean & Kreesha Turner, the Honourable James Moore, Elise Estrada & Kelowna’s own Aaron Prichett, Bob Rock, Tara Oram, Nikki Yanofsky, and Pepsi Super Fan Ali Furgala (who just happens to be from Kelowna…we had her on the show Friday morning), Melissa Hollingsworth & Jeremy Wotherspoon, Jim Cuddy & Feist, Elvis Costello & Diana Krall.
Performers at the show include Nickelback, Sam Roberts Band, Sarah McLachlan, The Stills, City and Colour with special guest, Crystal Shawanda, Divine Brown & Serena Ryder, Simple Plan, Bryan Adam with KathleenEdwards, Great Big Sea, Hawksley Workman & Eccodek.
Here’s some pics of the dungeon I’m in right now.
At 2:30 we’re supposed to be taken down to the red carpet and I’ll be back with some photos and interviews.
I only took one picture in the media room because I was so busy trying to sort out the audio stuff coming from the stage downstairs…and the interviews happening right in front of me. I’m so glad I went last night to the Juno Gala Dinner and Awards banquet to get a handle on the process and what to plug in where. Tonight at the broadcast portion of the show I’ll have a much better handle on the recording and photo ops.
So after the Gala Award and Banquet…it was back to Granville Street for the Westjet Stage…where Marissa and I were thrilled to get backstage for State of Shock…and omg…they ROCKED!!!
My ears are still ringing…but it was so worth it!!!
We were right up front of stage and then side stage to get photos and I managed to get together with Cam, Alison, Jessie and Kadooh. I takes a while for me to process the audio…so I’ll have those up in the next week as I get back to K-town and have some time.
In the meantime…here are a couple of shots from last night…
So this afternoon we’ve got to be on the red carpet at 2:30…the show starts at 5 and I believe will be broadcast on CTV at 5pm.
More Juno shenanigans to come.
Jazz @ the Junos

New Group of the Year…The Stills - Arts & Crafts

Jazz
I’m just going to upload some of the best pics from the day…and a couple of audio bits (which will come later) from the awards tonight.
This is the Westjet Stage/Tent area…this is just the start of the fun.
This staging area is on Granville Street and the tent took up at least a 1/2 a Vancouver block…and thank gawd we were under the tent because it was misting all day long.
Fans had a great time getting pics and autographs with their favorite bands.

Who doesn’t love a sugar buzz at the crack of noon.
We loved the free stuff being handed out today…including Kit Kats, Garnier Nutrisse Hair products, Irish Spring body wash and Doritos.

Guess who I got pics of?!?!
Yup…that’s The Stills and Sam Roberts Band…
And The Stills won the Juno for New Group of the Year…
And Sam Roberts won Rock Album of the Year…
Wish I’d snapped more pics of The Stills…sorry guys!

And later in the day we caught the Trews and Arkells.
I’m at the gala dinner and awards banquet right now…trying to catch some audio from the winners. I hope to have some of this audio up for you in the next few days….it takes a bit of processing.
Thanks for checking out Jazz’s Junk at the Juno Awards and I’ll have more over the next few days as I sort out the audio and photo info that I have.
Jazz @ the Junos
What a great day…what a great night.
I’m not sure where to start…except to say I got some great inside goo from Trevor Hurst from Econoline Crush.
Once I master this technology…I’m hoping to get my interview up with him.
Okay…so if all the stars aligned….there’s some breaking music news from Trevor Hurst from Econoline Crush.

So when we first got to the Commodore for the welcome party for the Juno Awards…there were some incredible contortionists on stage for a great show…I’m sure Bob will like these two!!!
There were a whole series of young performers thruout the evening.
—-
The food was amazing…including the sushi…
There was also Nicole, doing incredible henna and jagua work….
—-
And there were several ice sculptures in the room…including Belvedere…the vodka in my several martinis of the evening.
—-
Then we hit the street for the Westjet Stage.
Sorry the picture was so poor…but it’s hard with a point and shoot camera at night in a dark tent outside.
—-
And we found these funny little leprechauns doing people’s hair…
We wrapped up the night with a halapeno cheese smokie from the vendor at Robson and Burrard…and now it’s night night time…because we’ve got two huge days ahead.
