Excuse me while my 20 year old self freaks the F*CK OUT!!!
8 years. 8 YEARS! It’s been 8 years since we’ve heard anything from the Christian Post-hardcore band. Wait, did I say Christian? I think that might not be right anymore after listening to their new single/video “On My Teeth”.
Not only is Underoath back, but the WHOLE BAND is back! You might remember that drummer/singer Aaron Gillespie left the band back in 2009/2010 to play with “The Almost”. Everyone thought it was because of creative differences and the fact that Screaming/Singer Spencer Chamberlain was battling addiction. The band followed up Aaron’s departure by dropping Disambiguation in 2010, which wasn’t bad, and continuing to tour. After that… silence. The band did a “farewell” tour and released a greatest hits album.
Eight.. Years… Later..
It would appear that Aaron got over the band moving away from their religious roots and they teased “something new” yesterday. Then.. 3pm PST.. they dropped a new song AND Video. The new direction still sounds and feels like the Underoath we remember, but it’s vastly different with their message. Lyrics like “Get over it, Get over it” and “What you believe, your life’s a lie” would make it appear that the boys are done with gospel and just making savage Hardcore music.
And I’ve never been happier!
Underoath’s new album “Erase Me” drops on April 6th. It’s the first time I’ve pre-ordered an album since… It’s the first time I’ve pre-ordered an album.
