You know.. I’ve been a fan of Comic Books since I was a kid. I’m 31 and I still pick up, what I can, from the comic shop on Wednesdays! Venom has always been one of my favorite Anti-Heroes. Sure, he’s Spider-Man’s arch nemesis and Eddie Brock is a jerk, but he had redeeming runs or episodes. He was just so cool! Carnage was even MORE cool! A serial killer who gets an alien symbiote and uses it to turn his limbs into blades to murder people. That sounds like a GREAT plot to use in a rated “R” Venom movie. But not THIS Venom movie.
I’ve been on the fence of this movie since they announced it. It comes out later this year, supposedly doesn’t include Spider-Man, who is the REASON Venom looks the way he does! That’s just one reason, in a long list of reasons, that had me hesitant for this new movie. I want it to be great. I want it to be dark. I want it to be epic. But it looks like it’s going to be a movie about a guy who has to battle against an evil corporation (The Life Foundation) after they create evil symbiote creatures, gets the symbiote himself and then uses it to destroy the bad guys and use his new found powers for good.
That is probably going to be the paint by numbers plot of this new movie and the new trailer, which I had hoped would get my blood pumping, only proves my theories.
I’m a HUGE Tom Hardy fan. Love everything the guy does. He’s an incredible actor and every movie or TV show he does, he brings his absolute A-Game! I’m in no way worried that I’m not going to enjoy his performance, but I am worried if I’ll enjoy the movie. Time will tell on this one. Hopefully as we get closer to the Fall release date we get a little bit of a look at our new Venom and that changes my mind, but as it stands right now my HYPE For this movie is on the floor with my morals.
