Police are asking for more information about last day of 23 year old West Kelowna resident Russia Nicholson whose body was found in an orchard off Cooper Road in Kelowna last week. RCMP would like to know whether any businesses or home owners in the 2100 block of Cooper or the 1300 block of Collision Road where her Ford Fusion was found, have video of her vehicle on October 11 between 1 and 9am. PED BRIDGE CLOSED
Keep this in mind if your walking takes you along the waterfront in Kelowna for the next couple of days. The pedestrian bridge connecting the Lake Avenue Beach Access to City Park over Mill Creek will be closed today and tomorrow for widening and re-paving of the asphalt pathway. There will be no connection between the beach access and City Park.
If you’re planning on spending a bunch of money this Halloween on costumes and stuff the Better Business Bureau has a tip. Just remember that many of the things that appear for Halloween are one-off items and most stores will have a no-refund policy if they are damaged when you get them home. The BBB’s advice – check the refund policy of the store and keep the receipt.
FERNIE AMMONIA DEAD
The city of Fernie says three people died as a result of an ammonia leak at it’s local hockey arena yesterday. A HazMat team from a refrigeration company was called in to contain the leak. The circumstances surrounding the deaths have not been revealed and the coroner is investigating.
Kelowna city council will revisit its sign bylaw next month. City staff is recommending stricter regulations for temporary portable signs, and not permitting digital and animated signs. The idea is to get rid of visual clutter. Fees and fines would also go up and that would pay for a new bylaw officer to enforce the regulations.

West Kelowna residents are invited to a community forum tomorrow night at the Westbank Lions Hall. Staff will be there to discuss a number of topics including the new Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, new water rates, secondary suites, recreation programs and truck routes among other things. The Kelowna RCMP are asking for help in locating a woman who has not been seen since October 8. A friend reported 48-year-old Tara Frederick missing, after she failed to collect her belongings at a house. She is white, 5’5″, 122 pounds with black hair and green eyes and was last seen walking on Hein Road.
BC Hydro and Fortis crews were kept busy yesterday restoring power up and down the valley. Thousands of customers lost electricity at least once as high winds brought down lines. In some cases the power went off 2 or 3 times as grids were switched to try and keep clocks running.

Kelowna Rockets were in Kennewick against the Tri City Americans and were on the losing end of a 2-1 score. Kelowna’s 4th straight loss. Rockets are off until Friday when they host Portland.
Team WHL named its roster for the junior hockey series against Russia which begins next month. Kelowna Rockets Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Kole Lind were among those selected. The first game will be November 6th in Moose Jaw.
Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Chris Jones says Duron Carter is still a part of the team. Speculation about his future in Regina went crazy after a fight during practice with teammate Sam Williams on Monday.
