A sad ending to the story we told you a few weeks ago about a missing teen from West Kelowna. RCMP have confirmed that a body discovered on Saturday alongside MacDougall Creek by Cougar Road is that of 17 year old Jake Fehr. His death is not believed to be suspicious and the investigation is being carried out by the coroner.
The Elephant Hill wildfire in the South Cariboo is now estimated at about 168,000 hectares. That’s about 20,000 more than the last estimate. The latest mapping shows the fire’s growth pushing north to the Lake of the Woods next to Little Green Lake and having overcome Pressy Lake where some structures were lost.

RCMP and Lake Country Fire Department investigators have examined the scene of the blaze which broke out early Saturday evening in Lake Country by Highway 97. The fire is being considered accidental, so is not being investigated as a criminal arson case. A number of agencies responded and were able to contain it to a couple of hectares.
The majority of flood response sandbags have now been removed from public and private property in the Central Okanagan. If any on private property have been missed by pickup crews, residents should call the flood recovery line at 250-470-0674. Meanwhile the collection of unnatural debris such as unclaimed broken docks, unregistered boats, large trees or stumps from the shores of Okanagan Lake is expected to continue for a few weeks
The provincial government will end grizzly bear trophy hunting throughout the province and stop all hunting of grizzlies in the Great Bear Rainforest on November 30th. There are an estimated 15,000 grizzly bears in BC with about 250 taken by hunters each year. While the trophy hunt will end, hunting for meat will be allowed to continue.
The Township of Spallumcheen is looking to the new NDP government to improve Highway 97 from Armstrong to Enderby. Mayor Janice Brown says four-laning of the highway has to be considered. She says it can get pretty congested with people going to Mabel Lake and it’s pretty much the most direct way to get from the Okanagan to Calgary.
The program was started by the Liberals but the NDP has just kicked it off. The Britton Creek rest area at the summit of the Coquihalla Highway is the first rest area in the province to offer free Wi-Fi to the travelling public. Through a partnership with Telus and ICBC, the Province is installing Wi-Fi at a number of other locations throughout the province including the Loon Lake rest area east of Merritt.
A stunt driver was killed during filming of the Deadpool sequel in Vancouver yesterday. Police say the woman was driving a motorcycle by Jack Poole Plaza when she lost control and crashed through the glass of a building. The superhero sequel stars Vancouver’s Ryan Reynolds.

Pro wrestling legend ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair has been hospitalized with what’s being called “tough medical issues”. A report said the 68 year old was placed in a medically-induced coma and underwent surgery for a heart condition yesterday.
