Had an amazing weekend in Whitehorse! Easy to do with Air North (not a sponsored link, lol)!
We flew direct Kelowna to Whitehorse (about 2h 20m) Thursday evening and directly back Sunday afternoon. We even took the dogs!
We went up for a milestone anniversary for my in-laws who are about as dyed-in-the-wool Yukon outdoorsy as they come. They’ve got all the gear: Freighter canoe, regular canoes, aluminum boat, requisite safety gear, tarps, tents, whatever… and I’m pretty sure we used it all, just for an afternoon of hot dogs on the banks of the Yukon river. This was the view from our hot dog spot:
What a difference to be where the fire hazard rating isn’t extreme and campfires are still allowed.
When we were done, my nephew and I hopped in one of the canoes for the trip back to Whitehorse (my canoe view, below). I’d love to say that I made it the whole way, but that’d be a lie. Took a ride in the freighter canoe (w outboard) about halfway back. My shoulders are feeling that short paddle today anyway. Where’s the Advil…?
Anyway, if you you’ve ever thought about going North of 60, do it! It’s an incredible part of the country. The dogs will love it, too. 🙂
