ROTARY TRAILS CLOSED
West Kelowna is closing Rotary Trails Park today due to flooding. Spring runoff is underway and Powers Creek has overflowed its banks in areas of the park. The city’s advising people to be cautious around local waterways due to high, fast moving water and potentially unstable creek banks.
For those on the west side, FireSmart Family Day is tomorrow at Fire Station 31 on Old Okanagan. Kids get a passport challenging them to visit all the activities to earn a stamp and, at the end, a gift bag of goodies. And of course there’ll be lots of fire trucks and gear to check out and a bouncy house. Runs from 11-2.
First Triathlon of the season goes on Sunday so watch for single lane road closures along parts of Gordon, Casorso and DeHart just to name a few. They’ll generally be in affect from 5am to 1pm. The River Forecast Centre has issued a high stream flow advisory for the interior of BC. Mission Creek and other waterways around Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon are included. The Centre says with yesterday’s hot weather and thunder and rain storms today, snow melt in the mountains will pick up and small creeks and river systems are expected to rise quickly.
Kelowna RCMP is asking the public’s help in finding a missing Kelowna area woman. 33 year old Jennifer MacDonald was last heard from early yesterday and police are very concerned for her health and well-being. She’s described as white, 5’8″ tall, 117 pounds with auburn hair and green eyes.
Parking downtown along the waterfront will be tighter than usual this weekend as the Play On street hockey tournament hits town. Water Street will be closed to traffic from Sunset Drive to the west parking lot entrance at Prospera Place from 3pm today until 9pm Sunday. And the Dolphins parking lot at Waterfront Park is now closed until 10pm on Sunday.

RCMP are looking for the person responsible for a Smash N Grab at Rusty’s Sports Bar on Dilworth early yesterday morning. Police say as many as 9, signed, NHL jerseys were taken from display cases. The thief wasn’t lucky in targeting a lotto terminal.
If you didn’t get a chance to go last weekend, there is another non-partisan election information session on Sunday in Kelowna. It’s to give voters info on candidates in their ridings, party platforms, where and how to vote and some of the main issues. It runs from 2-4pm at 1668 Ellis Street, near Leon.
Sales were down but prices were up for real estate in the Okanagan last month compared to a year ago. The number of homes sold fell 23 percent to 821, while the average sale price was up 4 percent to 478-thousand dollars. Inventories are down so prospective buyers might want to act fast on a property.
Just one NHL playoff game last night. In New York, the Rangers evened their series with Ottawa at 2 games thanks to a 4-1 win.
Two games tonight, Nashville takes a 3-1 lead into St. Louis, while the Oilers and Ducks play in Anaheim with that series tied at 2.
