There is talk in the media that the Oilers should trade Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
It got me thinking. I remember when he was drafted #1 by the Oilers. He was touted as the saviour who was going to help turn things around for the struggling team. He had 52 points in 62 Games in his rookie year. This year 26 points in 54 games. Offensively, he appears to have lost the magic in his game and he struggles down the middle in his own zone.
Along comes Connor McDavid; arguably, the best player to be drafted since Sidney Crosby. They say great players make those around them better. Someone should share that philosophy with RNH. Since Connor McDavid’s arrival his play has been in considerable decline. Granted, he is not on a line with McDavid and maybe he should be. Try him on McDavid’s wing. Clearly, his current situation isn’t working to bring out his best.
Ryan Nugent Hopkins is a skill player with great hands. And although he’s shown flashes of brilliance this year and has played some great games from start to finish, he hasn’t been consistent. He has the potential to become a complete two-way player and I would love to see him return to form. Something’s got to give and maybe a trade is just what he needs.
