So we’ve all made the ride to the Super Bowl or as they call it …The World Championship. Pro football as we know it is over for another year. The CFL kicked off in June and our last NFL kick is February 5.
Not long ago ‘Pro’ football was close to running all year, kind of like European soccer which takes about 3 days off between seasons (or so it seems) Once upon a time there was the WFL. Didn’t Portland become Dolphin West ? There was the USFL with Donald Trump’s New Jersey Generals with Doug Flutie as pivot. The XFL was a beauty of a league for all of a year or so. Then there was the UFL, Under-fan- dead league. NFL Europe made a minor dent into soccer-mad countries. (Barcelona Dragons or Messi ?) Various incarnations of the almighty indoor game continue. Then Abbotsford enters the biggies s with a lingerie team entry.
But when I look at the lows its has to be the expansion of our CFL to a few quirky places. A non traditional effort to inject new life into a faltering league. I actually went to Sacremento to see the Goldminers and Winnipeg. But the Vegas entry was something else when He Hate You was actually emblazoned on a uniform. Probably wore it the day the lounge singer butchered O Canada.
